Ford F150

When we found this Ford F150 it was abandoned in garden in Randburg which again was a purely coincidental discovery. The owner’s daughter decided to sell her father’s car collection and this was the last one up for sale.

The car was very reasonably priced. It only became apparent later on that the car lived most of its life at the coast.

As it turns out this car was originally registered in Cape Town and imported directly form the USA. It found its way to Durban and then to George and finally landed in Johannesburg.

Once we took possession of the car we soon discovered what we had gotten ourselves into. Yet another nut and bolt restoration. Now the real work would begin.

During disassembly we really began to see the extent of the rust. Previous repair attempts were done with filler and silicone! The body was down to bare metal and all the rust cut out and replaced with new metal. After we had finished the bodywork we decided to change the colour to Ford Electric Blue and also to forego the body trim.

It now has new front brakes, dual exhaust system, windscreen, tailgate and rubberized extended load bed. The interior was completely gutted and redone in black as it was previously green in colour.

This Ford F150 came from the factory with 4 speed floor shift manual transmission with overdrive, that has been replaced with a Borg Warner T5 5 speed manual transmission.

The entire process took around 18 months to complete from start to finish. Today this 1981 Ford F150 is a matching numbers car and is 100% rust free and drives like a dream.
